July 20, 6:00p.m.: Dallas LGBT+ Bar Association Virtual Game Night

Join us Monday, July 20, 6:00 pm for a Virtual Game Night (with prizes)! The main action of the games will be broadcast via Zoom, while players use their own “controllers” (any phone, tablet, laptop, or other web-enabled device) to interact remotely. Grab a snack and your device, and get ready for an evening of fast-paced party games with some new and familiar faces. See you there!

Physical distancing does not mean social isolation.  Join other members and guests of the Dallas LGBT+ Bar Association (“DLGBTBA”) for a virtual happy hour via Zoom.  We will have options for participants to opt-in and discuss different topics.  You can discuss how other attorneys are handling their practice during the pandemic, or avoid the topic altogether.  The choice is yours!  So get cute (or don’t), grab something tasty to drink, and join us for an evening of good conversation.

Feb. 21st: Dallas LGBTQ Global Symposium

A coalition of Dallas based organizations is collectively presenting on February 21, 2020, the Dallas LGBTQ Global Symposium on equality and human rights. A diverse group of LGBTQ and ally presenters will highlight Dallas’s rich history of moving from openly opposing to vocally championing human rights and equality.

The coalition includes the World Affairs Council of Dallas/Fort Worth, the Embrey Human Rights Program at Southern Methodist University (SMU), the Cox School of Business at SMU, Resource Center, North Texas LGBT Chamber of Commerce and the Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum. This engaging program provides an extraordinary opportunity to support Dallas and its diverse communities as they take their place on the world stage in promoting global equality and human rights awareness.

This event is ‎hosted by the Dallas LGBT+ Bar Association (“DLGBTBA”), but open to ALL LGBT+ or allied professionals.‎ Due-paying DLGBTBA members get in FREE, but YOU MUST REGISTER to have your headshot taken. Tickets for non-members and the general public are only $10 and include one drink ticket and one headshot.*

Texas Bar CLE and the LGBT+ Law Section of the State Bar of Texas are hosting a day-long CLE in Austin, which will be live streamed via webcast.  The CLE is worth 6.5 CLE credits, with up to one of those being in ethics.  To register, click here.

In honor of Thanksgiving, the Dallas LGBT+ Bar Association (“DLGBTBA”) invites you to join us for a morning of community service with the Breakfast at Cathedral of Hope (“BACH”) Program. BACH is an ongoing program of Dallas Hope Charities aimed at serving community members in need, such as those experiencing homelessness. We will meet at the Cathedral of Hope cafeteria to welcome guests and serve a sit-down breakfast to anyone who could benefit from a fresh, hot meal. Following the event, volunteers are invited to gather for a networking brunch at a nearby restaurant (TBD then).

24th: Roadways to the Federal Bench:  Who, me? A Bankruptcy Judge?

In an effort to improve diversity in the bankruptcy bench and bar and the federal bench in general, the Judicial Conference of the U.S. Committee on the Administration of the Bankruptcy System is hosting a simultaneous, nationwide event occurring live in 19 cities, including Dallas where it will take place at the Belo Mansion (2101 Ross Avenue), open to all.  Following a panel webinar from Washington, D.C., attendees will participate in an hour of “roundtable” discussions, where judges sitting at your table will talk about their roadways and answer your questions.  Every fifteen minutes, the judges will move to another table, so you will meet up to 8-10 judges in just one hour.  Registration opens September 17, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. CT.  There will be limited space, so availability is on a first-come, first registered basis.  No charge, but you MUST register.

The Lawyers Promoting Diversity Committee of the Dallas Association of Young Lawyers (DAYL) is excited to present its annual Dinner & Dialogue, a CLE program that explores areas of tension within diversity and inclusion in the legal profession.  The year’s topic is Imposter Syndrome, a psychological pattern where people doubt their accomplishments and internalize a fear of being exposed as a fraud despite evidence of their achievements.  RSVP here.

Due to recent assaults of those within the LGBTQ+ community, the Dallas Police Department, in partnership with Chamberlain Studios of Self Defense, is offering a FREE inclusive LGBTQ+ self-defense workshop. The training will be led by the Dallas Police Department and 10th-degree Black Belt, Nick Chamberlain.
