The Dallas LGBT Bar Association and the LGBT Section of the State Bar of Texas, with support from sister bars, including the JL Turner Legal Association and Dallas Asian American Bar Association, are hosting “The Truth About Systemic Racism in Society and Understanding Our Personal and Professional Responsibility,” on February 24 at noon–1:30p.m. The course has been approved for 90 minutes of Texas ethics CLE. Attendance is free, but registration is required.

This moment in our history has brought us to an awakening, and attorneys, although educated about the law, aren’t equally educated about racism and privilege.  This presentation by Stephanie Franklin, a world-renowned expert in social justice advocacy, will provide an in-depth examination of the history of racism in the United States and the resulting systemic racism that is pervasive in today’s society.  The participant will gain an understanding of systemic racism and privilege, with a focus on identifying and recognizing privilege within the participant’s personal life and legal practice and learning ways to address it.
